Injuries to the head and spine must be suspected in every emergency. It is vital to understand how to identify potential injuries to the head and spine to ensure the best possible first aid care and in order to priorities advanced care.

Quick decision-making and an eye for detail is required to recognize, assess and manage spinal injuries. You will learn the appropriate management, visual and neurological assessments. 

In this short course, you will learn these skills and revise the anatomy and physiology of the spine, brain, central nervous system and the complications associated to these bodily systems.

P00077 - Introduction to Spinal Cord Emergencies

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 40 Mins

This course has no strict entry requirements however it is preferred if the student has prior first aid knowledge and has completed one of the following;

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (or equivalent)
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Life Support (or equivalent)

This certificate does not require renewal

Assessment involves short answer questions and written questionnaire. 

This course does not lead to a nationally recognised certificate
